David Kamo Race Report - Round #7

I drove down to Jericho, Ut on Thursday afternoon from Idaho with my mom. On Friday morning, I meet up with Dave Pearson, his mechanic, JR, and my alternate mechanic Suspension Mark to test the race bike. My mechanic Anthony had to mechanic for Kurt Caselli at the WORCS. I got my suspension set up a little bit better. JR did some jetting work on my bike and it ran great.

I showed up at 4pm to do a poster signing at the sign up tent. Dave Pearson, Morgan Crawford, Kendalll Norman, Jacob Argubright and I were all signing posters. I stayed until 6 then drove back to town to get dinner and some sleep before the race.

Race morning I headed straight out to the start and walked the bomb with two of my friends from Idaho. It was a really long bomb run, and it had rained the last two nights out there. The start was in the grass valley - smooth and wide open. There were 4 G-outs. I ended up starting on the left side. The start was supposed to be at 10:30 am, but the mini race was still going on. We ended up starting an hour later.

Kendall got a good start and was 1st. I was right behind him to the end of the bomb. I got dusted out a couple of times on the high speed sections behind Kendall, but I would make up time in the tight sections on the 1st loop. I came in to the KTM pits as Kendall was leaving the Honda pits. I went to pull off my aluminum IMS cap and I couldn't get it off. So Mark had to pop it off with a screw driver, and my friend's dad filled me up with gas. The pit took longer than it should have, but I left the pits eager to catch Kendall.

The 2nd loop was in the trees, and I had made up a little bit of time on Kendall, but I couldn't see him. At the 2nd pit, which was in the same spot as the 1st pit, I got goggles and gas. In and out with no problems.

The 3rd loop went back into the trees. I was about 40 seconds behind Kendall. About half way through the 3rd loop I was 30 seconds. After the water crossing before the finish I was 10 seconds. I finished 2nd, 5 seconds behind Kendall. Jacob Agrubright came in 3rd about 5 minutes behind. Local rider TJ Hannifin finished 4th, teammate Dave Pearson finished 5th with clutch problems, and Justin Imhof in 6th on a KTM 250xc.
